The Synrai art exhibition organized by the Mass Media Department of St. Anthony’s College on 19th October 2023, is a unique and inspiring display of art that goes beyond aesthetics; it is a conscious effort to create something beautiful while also being environmentally responsible and sustainable. The exhibition features the cumulative expressions of the 5th Semester students of Media Technologies, utilizing recycled products in their artworks and installations. This exhibition is a testimony to the commitment towards minimizing waste and promoting sustainable living.
The exhibition revolved around the theme “Synrai” meaning “Autumn” in Khasi. The students recreated sights, sounds and scents of autumn, and the result was a breathtaking exhibition that evoked the essence of the season. Entering the conference hall where the exhibition was held, visitors were immediately transported to the world of autumn. The students have gone beyond traditional mediums and produced multi-sensory experience for the visitors. The student’s use of scents made the experience more immersive, as visitors could smell the essence of autumn.
Moreover, what sets this exhibition apart is the range of artistic expressions. To complement and enhance the scents in the exhibition, the students also created a soundscape that captured the different sounds of autumn. Visitors could hear the sound of birds singing, crickets chirping, the sound of the stream and other natural sounds that are synonymous to autumn. Along with nature sounds, the students also incorporated sounds of urban areas and rural areas to create a well rounded auditory experience. The students have created an atmosphere that transcends the visual experience of an art exhibition.
This array of artistic expressions creates a unique and stimulating environment for visitors to immerse themselves in. The students have utilized organic and sustainable materials such as papers, leaves, grass, cardboard, umbrellas, wires, and more embodying the principles of environmental consciousness. The artworks, photographs, sculptures, sketches and painting on display were all inspired by the theme autumn. The exhibition featured a wide range of artistic expressions and the students used a variety of techniques and mediums to create their artworks, producing a diverse range of styles and interpretations of autumn.
In conclusion, Synrai art exhibition was an outstanding display of creativity, sustainability and multi-sensory art. It was also a spectacular celebration of autumn and the student’s talents. The exhibition was not just an art exhibition, but it was an immersive experience. Visitors were able to step into a world that recreated the essence of autumn through the scents, sounds and sights of the season.
